BlockChain Docs

APIs

All computers on the server come pre-equipped with three APIs:

These are TypeScript docs, make the applicable conversions when writing in Lua (e.g., null -> nil).

ComputerCraft Docs

All the base CC: Tweaked documentation can be found here.

Note: The Ender Modem is nerfed by Classic Peripherals.

FAQ

General

Who can participate?

BlockChain is for teenagers 13-18 years of age.

Is BlockChain legit?

Yes, BlockChain is a legit program run by (soon to be run by) Hack Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

How can I get help?

Join the Hack Club Slack and ask for help in the #block-chain channel.

Projects

What kinda of projects can I make?

Anything! Most projects either:

  • Interact with the game world (e.g., through a turtle)
  • Create new websites or services on the network

Certain projects also have a bounty because their addition benefits the server as a whole.

What are project requirements?

You must track your time using Hackatime.

Other requirements:

  • A video demo
  • Project must be publicly shared (preferably on GitHub)
  • An organized release (through GitHub Releases)
  • A README explaining how to use the project
Can I use AI?

Yes, AI is allowed. However, we do not permit “AI slop.”

If you use AI, you must do so responsibly. Projects with AI use will be held to a higher standard in terms of quality.

“AI slop” will be outright rejected and your hours will not be counted.

What languages can I use?

Lua directly runs on ComputerCraft, so it’s a great option.

Technically, you could use any language that can be transpiled to Lua.

TypeScript is officially supported.

What are bounties?

Bounties are rewards for completing certain projects. You can see a list of bounties on the project page, and suggest new bounties in Slack.

Once someone claims a bounty, no one else can claim it, so be quick!

Can I charge a service fee?

Note: This item is referring to digital, in-game currency, which has no real-world value.

If the bounty topic provides a service to the public, you are allowed to charge a reasonable fee.

Fees for physical services (e.g., a shipping service) are far more reasonable than digital services (e.g., a search engine).

A search engine should be free both to use and list. You could, however, charge a fee for advertising on your search engine.

Because you are also getting paid for the bounty, we expect that:

  • Fees are kept reasonable and low
  • Fees are not increased sharply or without notice
  • You do not monopolize the service (i.e, you do not prevent other players from creating their own versions of the service)
  • Fees are processed quickly and automatically

Bounty projects are still held to the expectations of a regular project.

Currency

How does currency work?

BlockChain has two forms of currency:

  1. Currency icon Currency - An in-game currency used for trading between players, which has no real-world value.
  2. Token icon Tokens - Can be redeemed for real-world rewards! Cannot be traded.

You’ll earn both currency and tokens when you submit projects. Bounty projects also earn additional currency (but not tokens).

How do I transfer currency?

Only in-game currency can be transferred. Tokens can not be transferred.

See the currency methods.

Prizes

What prizes can I get?

See our prizes page.
